In recent times, Taiwan has revealed its glare and charm noticeably by its unique history, culture, literature, people, and so forth. A 2009 statistic from the Taiwan Visitor Association indicated a 16 percent increase of visitors from Hong Kong and Macau and nearly 200 percent increase of Mainlanders to Taiwan. Youngsters are also attracted to its tertiary education. Taipei Economic and Cultural Center has revealed an increasing trend of Macau teenagers studying in Taiwan, reporting a 22 percent increase in 2009. What a leap!

As the end of this decade draws near, it’s normal to have feelings about the work we have done. But this decade, actually, nothing seems worth rejoicing about: 9/11, SARS and H1N1 influenzas, riots and wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, global credit crunch and unemployment, fear of being killed by global warming, and so on. It’s so disgusting to hear all the sad news in our daily life.
